In 1968, in Stanardsville, VA, a collection of motivated citizens recognized the need for emergency medical services in their community. They came together as one and put the wheels in motion to try to construct a rescue agency. Through hard work and perseverance, the Greene County Rescue Squad was created.

The Greene County Rescue Squad (GCRS) is a volunteer organization dedicated to serving the County of Greene and surrounding communities. We are a volunteer organization striving for the highest level of emergency care as well as providing basic and advanced life support to all citizens. We respond to 911 calls 24/7, 365 days a year.

We currently have four ambulances and two response vehicles. We have approximately 40 active, certified members volunteering as Drivers, EMTs and Paramedics. We respond to over 2,000 calls a year, rain or shine, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in our area of almost 20,000 citizens. We provide both Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS). We are passionate about serving our community in any possible. We are always looking at continuing to grow our volunteer agency.

Weather or holiday – it does not matter:  we will respond to those in need.  We are trained to provide the best patient care possible and that’s our goal.

In case of an emergency call 911 immediately.
